Several sightings of “ SM-G892U” by Venture Beat would suggest that Samsung plans to launch the ultra-rugged version of the Galaxy S8 globally (the “U” signifies a universal variant), though, we wouldn’t bet on it just yet. T-Mobile’s would have a “T” instead of an “A”. In addition, as part of the original report from Venture Beat back in September, the Galaxy S8 Active’s working model number is SM-G892A for the AT&T version. This could mean T-Mobile plans to launch an Active series smartphone well before the holiday season starts, though November 22 is a plausible launch date. That, and the 4G LTE icon matches that of the ones found on T-Mobile’s Samsung devices. In fact, Sprint did offer a “Sport” branded Galaxy S5, but it was a watered down version of the “Active” (if that makes any sense).Īnyway, Evan Blass of Venture Beat tweeted a render of the Galaxy S8 Active sporting “T-Mobile” in the corner of the lockscreen. AT&T has had an exclusivity deal to offer a ruggedized variant of the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone since the Galaxy S4 Active.
